Prague 11 Metropolitan District (Czech Republic)

Population: 79.000 inhabitants
Area: 9 km2

Logo of Prague 11

Prague 11, formerly called „South Town” (Jižní Město) represents one of the 57 districts of the Capital City of Prague being one of the biggest districts in numbers of inhabitants of Prague.

The district has a high population rate caused by high-density housing solutions offered in the district with its large stock of panel houses since 1970’s. Prague 11 has started to find energy efficiency solutions on the long term and has changed its panel housing policies accordingly since the last years. The district has already implemented a number of projects setting as objective the reduction of energy losses in public buildings (isolation of educational buildings, installation of photovoltaic panels on administrative buildings). In the same time Prague 11 has been supporting private initiatives in their efforts to increase energy efficiency in the districts’ privately owned buildings.

In joining the GovernEE project Prague 11 wishes to gain deeper understanding of current trends and find new integrated methods to increase energy efficiency, in close cooperation with other districts, cities or expert institutions on a European level. Prague 11 is looking forward to meet its long-term energy goals and to contribute in creating comprehensive governance guidance for greener energy policy-making to the attention of its local decision makers. By the end of the project, the Knowledge Network set up by the partnership will continue to work towards the new challenges and will help to find future solutions.
